We can all learn from Manny Ramirez

*Picture from the Boston Globe*

Much like the peace sign, the thumbs up, and the raised middle finger, I think the two fingered "Manny Point" needs to be adopted by this country as a universal symbol.

Think of it as a non-verbal "How YOU doin'?". Manny does this so often it makes you wonder if he points at the mailman, the kid delivering the newspaper every morning, and the senior citizen running the drive through window whenever he feels like a Happy Meal.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is how he greets John Henry whenever the owner comes around: just points, smiles, and walks away. Think of all the ritual's this simple act would get rid of: shaking hands, making boring small talk, and talking about the weather. Just give 'em the old "Manny point", wink, and continue on your merry way.

This could be the greatest development in the social fabric of this nation since the pat on the back for a job well done.

Once this becomes part of our daily life, I'm moving on to the next one: Man hugs.

  2. Tex, you realize this is getting a tad spooky, right?

I bet I know which one you used: it's the one I almost used. I'm gonna email it to you and let me know if I'm right!

  4. Carol, what's not to love about Manny? He's like a stuffed animal come to life! :)

    ReplyDelete
  5. I agree with you; the Manny point would be good for all of us.

Were you and Tex separated at birth? Or have the same birthday like you and Sheri? Or just spend too much time together? :)

  6. Stacy, she emailed me a few minutes ago, and it WAS the picture I thought!

Personally, I think we are each others internet doppleganger!

::laughs when imagining Scotty googling doppleganger to get definition::

    ReplyDelete
  7. Funny, I used that word last week and you said huh.

Manny point really means, pass me the joint man

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sonya says you really like the Manny point because you wouldn't have to touch anybody!

    ReplyDelete
  9. You have never used the word doppleganger! Or if you did you misspelled it and I didn't know what you meant!

Would you quit with the Manny drug references? I refuse to believe such nonsense.

What are you going to do with yourself now with no plants or fireworks to peddle?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Tell Sonya I never thought of that, but am adding it to the pro's of the Manny point argument.

    ReplyDelete

  20. Carol, baseball is like life:

Forget that noise: this sucks raw eggs. I want wins every night.

However, that is a good team we are playing: they didn't get to the World Series by luck last year.

  38. Kaylee you would not know sense if it poked you in the eye, which it just did!

    ReplyDelete
  39. ROFL (and I am honestly stifling laughter so as not to wake up little D Kay)!

    ReplyDelete
  40. HAHA SCOTT!!! I GIVE UP NO COmEBACK ON THAT ONE:)

    ReplyDelete
  41. //Kaylee you would not know sense if it poked you in the eye, which it just did!//

Oh my lord, I fell out of my chair!

Bub, you have 86 hits on your profile, yet nothing on it. You NEED to fill that thing out so we all can get a laugh: as creative as you can get with stuff, that could be a laugh riot!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ok, I'm weighing in a little late, but do you not all realize why Ted is championing the Manny point?

That means he would never have to shake hands with anyone, ever again.

    ReplyDelete
  43. DING DING DING!!!!

We have a WINNER: course, Sonya beat you to it Oat Muffin: and actually that didn't enter my head until she brought it up.

It's a GREAT addition to the list though!

Enjoyed getting to see you guys, and I know Caroline loved seeing her favorite Uncle. Sorry Trot terrorized her though.

    ReplyDelete
  44. We gotta work on baby C's irritability level. She just wasn't happy with Trotty.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Where is Tex and her tech support when you need her? OK Bub, go to the Sign Up her place right under where you type your username and password: it'll have you in it already and you should be able to do it then.

I don't think you have to have a blog to do it: if you do just make a blog up and don't put anything on it: this has the makings of a classic!

    ReplyDelete
  46. ok I figured it out. Will have to put my thinking cap on. Plus turn off live earth concert to answer those. Stay tuned.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'll check back in a bit Bub: got to go clean with Ang for about an hour.

Make it good now: I've built you up quite a bit!

    ReplyDelete
  48. JEEEEEEEEEEEeezzzzzzzz Do I have to teach EVERYTHING TO YA bros??? ::rolls eyes::

It should have something about create a Profile Scottie.

So ive been offered this job...of which I did NOT apply for...a Facility Administrator of a Juvenile Facility in Granbury, Tx...way UP near Ft Worth...the pay is only about $8000. more than my job now. Ive been debating pros and cons...but even though its more money...its not in Austin...it doesnt travel at all so i dont get hotel/flight points...the guy who would be my immediate boss i have no respect for...at all. but on the other hand he totally respects me and has said he would stay out of my way on all decisions. I would have to live nearby...which its about 30 min from Ft Worth...but its not the kind of city I feel is "me"....but such a great opportunity of a challenging job and something really good to put on a resume...

    ReplyDelete
  49. OH JEEZ scott you are making a blog to? And I am glad you got some laughs out of that comment you made to me last night!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Bub, you don't have to work again for 2 months...entertain your adoring public with your very own blog!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes, Tex, you DO have to teach everything to us! :)

Sounds like you have a really tough decision to make re: you job. So much good about the new job, but so much good about where you are, too. Good Luck with your decision. (I think you'll stay in Austin, but don't let that influence you.:) )

Wait until Scottie gets on. He seems to be the career coach of late. :) Maybe he has some words of widsom.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Tex, sounds like you've got some soul searching to do: it sounds like a great opportunity professionally, but you may have to weigh that vs how you want your quality of life to be.

Wish I could give you the answer, but you're one smart chica: I think you'll know what to do. If nothing else, it's a great compliment to you that they would offer you a job you didn't seek out.

    Good Luck with your decision.

Bub: is this profile gonna get done before Rakes starts kindergarten?

Top of the 3rd, 2-0 Sox, thanks to a Papi HR

    ReplyDelete
  53. Evening everyone:

Do ya think once, just ONCE Manny could NOT GIDP in a crital situation? I'm just asking, that'a sll...

Tex: Sounds like a neat opportunity has come your way--but the cons seems pretty significant (location, working with someone undesirable) sitting down and actially writing our the pros and cons may help....:-) Good Luck!

    Go Sox!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Could the redsox please win soon so I can write a post befor carol yells at me that you guys dont stay up past midnight?.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Christine, I'm wearing a hole in the living room carpet: this is KILLING me.

K - I call it like I see it -lol

    ReplyDelete
  59. thanks all for your comments about the job...im still mulling it over...got to make the phone call. and Ted you'll understand when I say this: I don't like making big decisions when all is not right in my life. it is a great opportunity but as some of you noted....where i live is very important to me.

I need to blog again...lets see if Ted and I do the Spock thing

    ReplyDelete
  60. i think ted and i did do the spock thing...neither of us blogged last night! im telling ya its like our minds are synchronized...but of course im the brains of the operation ;)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Scotty, do you just quit liking someone when they have a bad day? You are indeed the fairweather fan.

Carol, see the above comments: I expected better out of you. ;)

Tex, no new blog from me yet because I started feeling bad last night and woke up feeling like I gargled razor blades: I think all my outdoor activity this week is now playing havoc on my allergies: Hopefully a day inside in the A/C will make the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Well ted i hope you feel better soon...i hate allergies.

    ReplyDelete
  63. What is up? A sweep? With the Yanks only 10 back heading into the break? Must I become Mr. Pessimist again to get us back on our winning ways?

Just so I won't be blamed: I didn't even so much as check a score before these games were in the books. Not my fault!

    ReplyDelete
  64. New post just up corn muffin: and if you'd told me in March we would hit the break with a 10 game division lead and the Yankees not even at .500, I'd have said thank you sir, may I have another.
