Can we cut the crap and just sign him already?

OK, Theo. You've made your point.

He's not what he once was, he's a potential black hole in the lineup next year, and Scott Boras is his agent.

We all realize he's a catcher on the downside toward 40, know most guys his age who have played the position are either playing 1B, riding the bench, or retired to a life of coaching little league.

But still; he's the freaking CAPTAIN of the team. He can still call a game like nobodies business, and based on how the current team is constructed he's gotta be the first guy out of the dugout when "Big Game James Shields" needs a beating during the next donnybrook with the Rays. And it's coming, sooner rather than later.

Besides, you can't tell me you're actually serious about this whole Josh Bard as the #1 catcher thing.

You got no guarantee he makes it out of Spring Training without needing 30 days in the psych unit after trying to catch Wake in a side session in March.

Bring back Tek so I can have the first good nights sleep I've had since August.

Yep. I know he's stressing me out.

Theo is just waiting for Tek to end up in the Christmas Clearance Aisle at 80% off!!
To me is just shows lack of respect.....a good business decision but with no thought to the individual.

Theo will have to fight with me on the discount rack!

I agree - he's so respected by the team, and his pitching staff truly seems to rely on him. Sign him!

In addition to his annual "reminding the fans who is in charge of this team" event, I also worry that this Josh Bard Experiment: The Sequel has an underlying motive. See, they have that eternal option to pick up Wakefield year after year, right? And Wakey is another Beloved of Sox fans. If they just up & refuse to pick up Wake's option one year, they end up looking terrible so... pick up Wake's option, let Cash (who Wake was reasonably comfortable pitching to in Dougie's absence) go to free agency, pick up Bard (who was so tough on Wake in 2006, he ended up with stress-fractured ribs) and... drive Wakefield into calling his own retirement. =P I keep waking up every morning, praying that I will read that while I slept, in the wee hours of morning, they inked a deal with Tek as well as picking up one of those kids from Texas. So far? I'd be better off to stay asleep & keep dreaming.

Marc and Beth,

I know Theo doesn't do anything based on sentiment and understand Tek had a bad year. But the other stuff needs to be considered too.

Oh & I think what really scares me is that this Front Office seems to have nothing in the "sentimentality" department. The one time they listened to "the masses" was with Lowell last off season and then he got hurt...

Dawn, we must have been typing at the same time. Totally agree on Josh Bard; if he's not catching Wake, what is he? Are they seriously thinking about going into the season with him as the starter? Strange days in RSN right now.

We have got to stop typing at the same time, Dawn!
