Independence Day

*Picture from the Boston Globe*

Every so often, the MLB schedule makers decide it'd be OK for the Red Sox to play at home on July 4th: for some weird reason, either by choice or just some random coincidence, the Sox are rarely in Boston for the holiday. You'd think they would hold the Boston Tea Party and Paul Revere in a little higher light, but what do I know.

Thankfully, it happened this year, and their opponent was the hapless Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Because of, well, general laziness, I wrote last night that Julian was pitching today. Lesson for the kids: this is what happens when you don't do your research.

Instead, Wake took the hill, and thanks to some fine hitting by Jacoby Ellsbury, JD Drew, and a monster shot from Mikey doubles, left the game in the 7th inning with a 7-1 lead, but the bases juiced. 4 D-Ray runs later, and we had ourselves a ball game. All was well though, as MDC and the Papelbot finished it off, with a final score of 7-5.

With a 52-31 record, the MFY's a nice 12 games back, and Beckett on the mound tomorrow, things are looking up. I'm a little melancholy though, at the realization Uncle Julian won't be pitching in this series: he's become my best hope for being the small spark that is gonna touch off a massive donnybrook, where in my head I imagine Donnelly and Timlin working some poor soul over in the corner in a way that would make Chuck Liddell green with envy.

I hope everyone who stops by this little corner of the world every now and then had themselves a great 4th of July. In between family and cookouts and friends, we sort of lose track about what today represents.

A lot of men and women better than me sacrificed their life for the freedom's we have: hopefully, we all took a moment today to say Thank you.

I'd believe you bub. As much as I'll believe Stacy posted at 10:13 and 10:17 pm. Who are you and what have you done with Stacy?

Tex, I'm seriously getting worried: either we really are related or I'm having a Stephen King moment here.

See Mattie: I'm deep. I just don't know it. Makes sense to me.

Bub, how many rubes did you fleece at the fireworks stand tonight?

Good morning - Hope everyone had a nice fourth! I wanted to post a note here for anyone that has me on their link list. I closed down my blog; I was going to do it at the beginning of the week, but decided to wait until after the holiday so that I could post the rest of my pics of baby D. I'm going to be printing out most everything for D over the next week or so, so that I can save it for her til she gets older. Also, if you ever stopped by and left comments, I want to say- Thanks! I may start a new one, and of course I'll still be reading all of yours (you can't get rid of me that easy ;) Take care - CC

Spoken like a man who has never tried to get around on the Green Line with hundreds of thousands of folks trying to get in place for the Pops and the fireworks! ^_^ (Not to mention the associated road closures--there was a reason Remy had to keep talking about that all week!)

That said, it was a heck of a game, and there was a very nice salute to the military in the seventh. I think they were practicing the jet flyover during the week, as we kept getting buzzed by fighter jets Tuesday.

Carol, you aren't exactly starting my day off on a bright note: hate to hear you are shutting down the blog. One of my hihglights was seeing what Baby D had done next! You better keep checking in here or I'll be aggravated with you. ;)

Kelly, I kept wondering why they kept talking about all the road closings! WIth 3 kids yelling in the background, I miss a lot of the little details! That makes sense though. I'll smack my forehead later. :)

Hope you had a great time at the game.

I love this game so far d-rays starter out after 2 outs in the game 6-0 SOX!

Ted D said...

Bub, you sold 51K worth of fireworks? That is redunkulous.

Carol, that's very good news about the new blog: keep me posted on if/when you start it.

And this game rocks so far: 6-0, Beckett has struck out 5 in 2 innings, and Ortiz just led off the 2nd with a wall ball double.

WOOT!

KAYLEE said...

I feel a blowout here....kind of like the colorado mets game last night:) and thats fine with me!

VTek said...

A blowout by the Sox will mean a very good post for you to write K :)

Ted D said...

Hey Carol: I'm thoroughly enjoying this game. It's nice to watch without your stomach hurting every now and then: good for the soul and all that.

VTek said...

It sure is Ted - Happy days are here again :)

Christine E. said...

Evening everyone:

These are my FAVORITE kind of games--They are so much fun to watch! and if MIke Timlin comes in and gives up a grand slam, it does not hurt too much...LOL

Hope everyone had a brilliant 4th of July!

Go Sox!

Ted D said...

Same to you Christine: and no Tums tonight!

Timlin will play a critical role in October: you heard it here first.

Carol Rally said...

4th of July - Now there's another day you could have got hitched Christine LOL

Christine E. said...

CC: Yep, ready made fireworks...But I like Friday the 13th...:-)

And the weirndess does not stop there: We have 113 guest, 13 tables, and 13 in the wedding party..LOL

As long as they do not bring in Timlin with runners on base, he does fine--its all those "inherited runners" that kill him...:-)

Ted D said...

Still kills me you are getting married on Friday the 13th.

That's tomorrow, right? ;)

Carol Rally said...

You did that on purpose with the 13 - If not, it sure must be a magical number for ya!

Carol Rally said...

? - Is your dress black?

Christine E. said...

Yeah, Ted, Tomorrow...LOL

No, CC, my dress is ivory and gold--but there was a black cat on our invites! ;-)

The Friday the 13th date was the only one we did on purpose, the other ones just kinda happened....:-)

Ted D said...

"The Friday the 13th date was the only one we did on purpose, the other ones just kinda happened....:-)"

Cue the Twilight Zone music.

Carol Rally said...

And you're Rod Sterling Ted :D

15-4 Sox - And that's for real!

Ted D said...

Just think, we have 15 games left to play against the Devil Rays.

::does happy dance::

Carol Rally said...

to 'That Dirty Water' of course ;)

Ted D said...

Of course: what else?

Well, in honor of Corn Muffin, maybe "Sweet Caroline".

Carol Rally said...

I don't know - Corn Muffin always makes a point of saying that the name has NOTHING to do with the Sox - LOL

Ted D said...

Between you and me Carol: I think the boy is lying through his teeth.

Carol Rally said...

Don't think that's allowed in the bible TD.

Sonya@Beyond the Screen Door said...

Well I don't know what to do with myself. No fireworks to sell.

Jr whats on the agenda for tomorrow? How much do they have to pay a patsy team like that to come to town?

Carol shuts down her blog. Someone said something ugly? Was not me.

Ted D said...

Bub, the shut down was brief: click on the link on my homepage. She's back in business.

I wish we could play them more right away: it's coming though, see the new post.

On the agenda is the Tigers for 3 games: should be a good test of where the team is at.

Carol Rally said...

I heard that SH (lol)

With the fireworks over now, take out your guitar!
