A Light At The End Of The Tunnel

With it being 100 days or so remaining until Tedapalooza and the last Red Sox game played on October the 28th, I've reached some sort of baseball purgatory. All I've got to tide me over is my World Series DVD, my commemorative books, and memories.

Tonight after I got home, we took the kids outside to play; today was one of those North Carolina winter days where the temperature was around 65 with no humidity and the sky is what I imagine Dean Smith sees in his dreams. Pure Carolina blue.

As I watched Ciera ride her bicycle into the neighbors wet yard leaving tire tracks you could row a canoe in, Trot stand on the swinging door of his eggcar while he tried to climb onto the roof, and Rakes position his bike at the PERFECT place where the road meets the driveway (This prime spot allows him to peddle like Lance Armstrong, tires spinning merrily along while, thanks to his training wheels, he goes... nowhere), I was struck by the fact that I REALLY miss baseball.

A little while later I found out that Truck Day is this Saturday, and suddenly my mood lifted. Truck Day, if you don't already know, is when the team packs up all the crap in Boston on 18 wheelers and drives it down to Ft. Myers in preparation for Spring Training.

Which means the yearly "When will Manny show up?" stories will start to make the rounds. You'll see Jerry Remy, dressed in some hideous floral shirt pontificating about the strength of the bullpen, and at least one random interview with some pale refugee from New England ranting about the Yankees and that "SOB Steinbrenner".

All of which basically means one thing; baseball is coming.

Soon.

It won't be that much longer until Opening Day, Remy and Orsillo in the broadcast booth, and Manny pimping a majestic shot that JUST hits the top of the Monster, turning a potential triple into a REALLY long single that ends with him maniacally pointing at the dugout.

Mike Lowell making the impossible play look routine at 3rd, Jacoby turning a single into a double, and Big Papi sending us all to bed smiling. Or Youk grinding out a walk in the bottom of the 9th, The Munchkin making a game saving stop his 5 foot body has no business making, and Josh Beckett picking a fight with Prince Fielder because he looked at him funny.

In other words, honest to God real life Red Sox baseball.

I.

Can't.

Wait.

How on earth is there no mention of this here?! I thought for sure this would be formally announced long before I got here tonight...

"In a move that gives them insurance if (when?) they trade Coco Crisp, the Sox have come to terms on a one-year deal with outfielder Bobby Kielty. It's a nonguaranteed contract that will pay Kielty $800,000 if he makes the big-league roster, with an additional $300,000 in incentives. More later."

Dawn, I read this earlier tonight.

Kielty is the perfect 4th OF. I'm a little concerned about Crisp breaking camp with the Sox. He's made it pretty clear he's not going to be happy as a back up.

Sorry I dropped the ball. I promise I'll try to do better next time. ;)

I wouldn't blame Coco. I'd be sorry to see him go but I can see how he would want to be somewhere he could start. He would have to get a trade worked though because he's still ours on paper.

I wasn't blaming you. I thought Tex would be in here shrieking for joy!

Dawn,

Coco deserves to start; he's hands down one of the best defensive CF in the game. Hopefully they can move him somewhere he'll start.

Tex is celebrating Mardi Gras in Texas I think. She may not be aware of the fact her BF has been resigned. Once she finds out, I'm sure she'll be thrilled. ;)

Well man...8 days and a few hours for pitchers and catchers. Having Kielty back is helpful and good, although I really do wish Trot coulda come back...

Wayne,

You and me both on the Trot thing.

I'd really like to show him who I named him after someday.

Tex, you are a marvel. I couldn't keep up with you if I tried.

I figured you'd be excited about Kielty coming back. ;)

Truck Day? That you are aware of said day frightens me.

I'm going to miss Coco. I don't think he ever got the props he deserved. But with the kid up, you know he's not starting. I hope they get something good in return.

7 days, 16 hours, and somewhat minutes until ST starts.

I'll miss Coco, but can you really blame him for leaving? He already mentioned that he wants to start and I don't know how he'll be with Jacoby as probably the new starter.

Kielty will fit fine with his hair style =]! I'm third with wishing Trot would come back. Maybe next year?

Interesting - McNamee has evidence of Clemens steriod use, but that's for a different time...

Ted D said...

Right, Newt. Like you don't know when it's National Hockey Puck Making Day, or Earth Day, or Save a Whale Day, or Hug a Tree Day, or.... well, you get the point.

Krystle, I saw that on MacNamee. What a psycho: he saved that stuff all this time. Wonder if Roger will change his tune.

Krystle [RSO] said...

Clemens? Changing himself to be the bad guy? When did hell freeze over?

So you're under the triple digits for you trip to Boston huh?

Ted D said...

Yep, Krystle.

Only 99 to go!!

i think the restaurant gave me the flu. Ive been coughing from my chest very deeply all day...like i smoke or something...maybe that shot of jaegar hit the spot?

Ted D said...

The flu? Nah: I don't think it's the flu.

Drink LOTS of water and you'll be fine. You amaze me, Tex. You have the constitution of an Iron Man contestant. :)

Tex said...

i dunno ted. I think last night was my LAST Party Hard Mardi gras.

or either I just have to take the day after off from now on. I cant do that every night...but i do have to say no to the shots

Ted D said...

//but i do have to say no to the shots//

Words to live by. I hate going to the doctor too.

Oh, wait a minute....

Tex said...

not THOSE shots

Ted D said...

NOW I got you. ;)

Tex said...

hey did scott read my post about meeting that okie boy? i didnt find out where he was from till the end of the night and it woulda been just too rude to say "oh im sorry..your an okie I can talk to you" but when he said he was from there...I smiled so big...he asked what's the matter? I just shook my head and said Oh I banter with this guy from Okie...

Ted D said...

Tex, I'm guessing he saw it, but he's been MIA for a few days.

Tex and an Okie: who'd a guessed it?

Tex said...

hey i didnt say i was in love. and he is alittle older than the ones i usually get. he's 38. closer. i just cant see myself with someone my age unless they have my stamina

Ted D said...

//unless they have my stamina//

Tex, college students couldn't keep up with you. I've decided you're a force of nature.

Tex said...

im telling ya. I really think i have more than just a hangover. perhaps it was already lingering and the jaeger caused it to come up front. im coughing from deep within and it aint pretty what im coughing up. problem is I havent got a new dr with my new insurance plan. If I go to my dr Id have to pay full price :(

Ted D said...

Tex, that stinks.

What about a walk in clinic or something? Or just go buy a bottle of over the counter stuff and see if it helps.

Stay away from the jaegermeister, though. ;)
