Spring has sprung.

Coco Crisp has hair now. So does The Papelbot, but his looks like he should be singing lead for Flock of Seagulls. Kevin Youkilis looks like a thinner version of David Wells, and the Red Sox, apparently, signed some guy from Japan. I know this because all of a sudden, there are 1,000 Japanese reporters wandering around camp trying to take pictures of Matsuzaka going to the bathroom.

Spring Training is the weirdest time: all of us fans are excited about baseball being back, and the players, for the most part, just want to get their work in so they can make their tee times. It's kind of like Christmas time at school for Ciera: she's at school, but she's not really working. She watches a lot of videos, does basic work, but not too much serious stuff gets done. Don't get me wrong, guys are getting their timing down, building up arm strength, getting into that final level of fitness they need to for the season. For the most part though, 90% of the guys are ready to go. Wily Mo hit a moon shot and broke his bat in BP today for Pete's sake: I think he's close to ready.

Schilling has learned some Japanese, and is proudly speaking it to anyone who will listen. I compared Rakes to Millar a while back: he's got a little Schilling in him too. Smart, opinionated, loud, and almost NEVER stops talking. Tek was fist bumping Dice K and Papi and JD Drew are due soon. Meanwhile, on the Manny front, his spokesperson, Crazy Julian says Manny is taking care of his sick mother and will arrive March 1st. Poor lady, she always seems to get afflicted with some type of sickness right when camp opens. Weird.

First game: a week from tomorrow vs. the Twins.

Let's get it on.

MANNY always has an excuse to arrive late!I want to punch MANNY every time I hear his name.I dont have a lot of respect for the guy,if you couldnt tell already:)The only thing I like about MANNY IS HIS BAT:)Schilling will speak to you in any language as long as you listen to him!JUST LIKE ME.He and MAtsuzaka seem like real good friends:)

Aw Kaylee, Manny is all right. He's just been spoiled and catered to his whole life, and at 34 years old, it's sort of hard for him to change now. He's not a mean guy, or a malcontent, he's just a goofball. Hey: Big Papi thinks the world of him, and thats good enough for me.

KAYLEE said...

Yeah papi likes him Because He keeps him from getting Walked:D

Lets just say I am glad I aint his mother:)

In Bill Simmons book "Now I can die in Peace" he mentions that Manny was breast fed until he was 4 years old.

'Nuff said.

Man, I wish the season would hurry and start. I don't know how much more of this fashion reporting I can deal with! OF course when the season starts I have to go back to work, so I will be dependent on you keeping me up to date. A real ying yang. FYI Larry, Moe and Curly were breast till they were four also!

Tex said...

the three stooges were breasts?? what did they turn into then??

ted...im sure that kelly and SotB will have their computers...so hopefully we can report from Ft myers next week

just to make you jealous

Sonya@Beyond the Screen Door said...

Tex, they turned into over paid clowns!

Tex said...

well scott then Bring in the Clowns!! dont diss the stooges!!
:)

Don't worry bub: I'm sure I'll get the word to you once you go back to work! And I'm with Tex, you need to back away from the Stooges now: them's fightin words.

Tex, I'm already jealous: you don't have to rub it in!

Waaaaaaaaait a sec...Bub is dogging the Stooges? C'mon Bub! They were CLASSIC!!! And you have to admit you've stolen some of their sthick over the years. I have pix to prove it!

Tex, please do not provoke my brother into fulfilling his mad desire to travel to Florida for Spring Training. Why, you ask? Because I'll have to take off work to drive him in order to keep him from turning into a quivering bowl of jelly in the traffic down there. Please, have mercy. I want to stay home with my family. I don't want to have to be Morgan Freeman to Ted's Miss Daisy.

And brotha, I can't take CoCo with hair...it's freaking me out. He kind of resembles O.C. now. It's just strange. Youk looks like Wells...it's like the Twilight Zone. Next thing you know, Theo will be bald, Tito will have a fro, and Manny will have a comb-over.

But I say: bring on the Twins! Let's get this ball a rollin!

Ted D said...

Matty, I have no idea what you are talking about. Me, not liking to drive in traffic? Just because I make you drive from Richmond to Baltimore and Baltimore to Richmond every year on our trip?

Besides, I notice we ALWAYS drive my car, not yours! You think Coco is bad, I'll mail you a picture of JD Drew at camp. Man needs a tan in a bad way: I'm afraid he's gonna get melanoma before camp breaks. We gotta forgive Bub Matty: he is 49 now! (Sorry Tex: no offense intended! I'm sure you don't look your age, unlike Scott!)

Tex said...

ted no offense taken cos Im sure this 48 yr old gal can kick your ass if you were trying to offend me :)

Ted D said...

That is why I was very clear to say "No offense Tex"!

I'm dumb Tex, not stupid!

Tex said...

its clear ted that you have more sense than scottyboy...i mean come on Who disses The Stooges??

Ted D said...

Scott does. I've got to do a post about Scott one day Tex: he is an all time classic! Best brother in law you could ask for, but he is one of a kind. He's always acted about 20 years younger than he is, and I was kidding about the looks: I'm 13 years younger than him, and look twice as old.

Sonya@Beyond the Screen Door said...

Jump a man while he is at church praying for yall! IF the stooge fits wear it I say. Tex I'm sure I met you 20yrs ago in another life!.And I still haven't recovered. Matt where have you been? Tree hugging convention! You can bet if I come out to a game I will be the driver , I don't trust you two yahoo's a bit. I'll drive you two set in the back and shoot marbles!

Ted D said...

C'mon now Gramps: we're just busting on you a little! Matt CLAIMS he's been working on his new house: I find him untrustworthy and a bit untrustful. So, yeah, he was probably out bird watching, or kissing some moss or something.

Hmm..., shooting marbles?

(hehe: Bub said marbles!)

The nights still young , thought you would have a new story for us!We have two spots open on the ski trip leave the minor leaguers at home and come on out. Join the mile high club on a sleeper bus.

Ted D said...

Nah, I get writers block: it takes me 2 days to come up with something: Man, I'd love to go skiing with ya'll. I miss going to CO and falling down for 4 days! And while I'm game for the mile high club, I don't think Ang will go for it!

Got my tickets to the Sox/O's games today though bub. Priorities you know. New post sometime tomorrow night I hope.

Sonya@Beyond the Screen Door said...

Understand that. Whats up with the atlanta games, did you look yet

Ted D said...

Yeah bub: June 19-20th in Atlanta.

About a month too early for you.

Sorry.

Tree Newt said...

Bub, the only tree hugging I've been doing lately is climbing over 2X10s in the attic, pulling electrical wire through 50 year old walls. I'm actually ready to go hug a tree, after crawling through 50 years of dryer lint under the house.

Jr., in case you forgot: the reason we take your wheels is that mine have about 100,000 more miles on them. You know, some of us have to drive for work.

Tell Bub to sack up and come with us to B-more for a game. Forget Hotlanta. He'd just turn into a Braves fan if they happened to win a game from us. How many different lids do you have, Bub? I know you dusted off that old Cards lid after last Oct.

Mattie, In the spirit of the game I am wearing my Reds's hat as we speak.or I type. Since You won't be paying for anything the next 6 - 8ys. You should be in the market for a new car!! Ted won't be speaking for awhile he is blocked up. Maybe the news on Manny and the car show I mean his sick mother will motivate him.
