Walk off. Or what a freaking ending. Whichever you prefer.

*Picture from the Boston Globe*

Are you kidding me? Your stud pitcher leaves in the 4th inning with an "avulsion", which is painfully described as a "forcible separation or detachment as a tearing away of a body part accidentally or surgically" of his middle finger on his pitching hand. Beckett, being the Texan he is , hopes to make his next start. Good luck convincing Tito of THAT Beckett.

You have been shut down by Jeremy Guthrie ( I know: who?) for 8 1/3 innings, who entered the 9th with a 5-0 lead. Then: magic.

Ramon Hernandez drops Coco's pop up. Danys Baez ( Yes: I wonder where the other n went also) comes in a gives up a double to Papi, which scores Coco, then a single to WMP, making it 1st and 3rd, 1 out. In comes the O's closer Chris Ray, who promptly walks JD Drew to load the bases, THEN walks Youk to bring Ortiz in to score. That makes it 5-2, and things get REALLY interesting now.

El' Capitan doubles in WMP and Drew making it 5-4 with men on 2nd and 3rd, so they intentionally walk Erik Hinske to set up the double play. Lil' Alex Cora hits one off the end of the bat and Brian Roberts makes a GREAT play throwing out Youk at home. (Replay showed Youk actually may have beat the throw, but since they won I'm not ranting)

Up comes Julio Lugo, who hits a ground ball to Millar, who throws to Ray covering first: and Ray DROPS the ball! Cue Dirty Water, the Red Sox score 6 in the ninth and win the sucker: unreal.

Seeing a bunch of multi-millionaires jumping up and down while pounding each other on the head is a sight to behold: makes you glad to know they realize it should be fun. Even JD Drew joined in the fun and he's usually as expressive as peat moss.

Also, the Blue Jays AND the Yankees lost today, meaning the Red Sox, at 25-11, hold a 8 game lead over the O's and MFY's and a 10.5 game lead over the Jays and Rays.

Life. Is. Good.

Me too Tex: but a win is a win is a win, and I'll take it.

Safe travels on your business trip this week, and I'm sure you'll be checking in.

And again, Happy Mother's Day sis: hope it was a good one for you.

Sounds like you had a great day: sorry you could not spend it with your Mom.

What a game, just the kind that you must love to write-up! Enjoyed your post and the peat moss comment lol.

Carol, I've got to say those are the kind of games that are fun to write about!

Hope you had a great Mother's Day with Baby D.

Every Red Sox fax must have acid reflux or high blood pressure with all these last minute come-from-behind wins. Probably a good thing I don't get to see most of them. :)

Sonya here...

Ted...just wanted to let you know that I am also a faithful reader. I just choose to be a silent partner in the "Ted Dalton vs MFY Fan Club".

P.S. Scott won't tell me what that means!

Ok great win BUT you are kidding me! torn skin on his middle finger . HE is one game short of breaking record held by the imfamous Babe , couple more innings and he could come out with the sox rcord! Whimp!

Tex said...

Scotty you better quit calling MY BOY names!!!

KAYLEE said...

scott: I am pretty sure he was not faking there! He aint a whimp!he wanted that victory I can bet you!

Sonya, Sonya, Sonya: my sweet innocent sister.

Bubba, Tex is gonna beat you up you keep that up. It's torn skin on a pitcher's finger bub. We want him all year, and besides, I'd rather win a WS than him break some record.

How'd the fleecing go today? You ever feel guilty taking them little old rich ladies money? :)

Tex, hope your trip is going well.

Sonya@Beyond the Screen Door said...

Thats why it took so freaking long for you guys to get a WS win!! You got to erase that mans name from your history.

Im not saying he is not good, but trust me if it was reversed and the yanks were in that spot he would have pitched ,excuse me ladies, with a sanitary napkin on his hand!

Ted D said...

Scott, are you insane? They have $10 million invested per year in him, they are 8 games up over their closest competitor, and it's MAY.

And you are incorrect: if he was a Yankee, he'd have cracked his fibula on the first pitch of the game, then went on the DL, never to be heard from again.

Sorry Jr todays baseball from management perspective is how much can we parlay from this player besides wins and loss's. MONEY wipe out a team record held by the Babe and they pay his contract out of souvenier icecream sticks.

Ted D said...

Dude: with the Babe getting lapped by the steroid era, I've got NO problems with Beckett not getting his record. Let him keep at least one I say.

Besides, I want a championship, not some team award. And Beckett would tell you the same thing.

Are you secretly a Yankee fan?

Scottyn you and me behind the toolshed. dukes up

KAYLEE said...

TEX,you are scaring me!

Toldja she was gonna beat you up Bub.

Hope everyone is well!

Go Sox!

TEx I have gone behind the shed with a few girls so I don't think this will be anything new. Here in fact blindfold me this time! THANKS

Ted D said...

Christine: How about that COMPLETE GAME 6 HITTER by Daisuke?

7-1 Red Sox!

::plays Dirty Water at full volume::

JR all I am trying to say is. There is a reason the yanks have that intangable you are beat before you get on the field image. Maybe its slipped now, good for the sox.BUT if they want to be more than a team that won a series, you got to have that swagger, so all your little groupies take off the blinders and just see a different side.

Ted D said...

Bub, if you or I had a flap of skin come off our finger, we'd be at the emergency room getting stiches. He super glued the sucker and sat in the dugout for the rest of the game. It's not a hangnail for Pete's sake.

You, my MUCH older brother in law, have a problem!

Sonya@Beyond the Screen Door said...

Dude I have played for the love of the game with that kinda stuff. I finished and then got sewed. He is a 10 mil man, if thats how they feel they will always be chasing a ghost. Write it on my tombstone!

Ted D said...

Bub, b-ball down at the park don't count. You know this: c'mon now.

Sonya@Beyond the Screen Door said...

You my fine feathered litte friend are aparently getting too much sleep.

KAYLEE said...

my neck hurts now i want to sleep but,ESPN aint letting me!

Stacy said...

Tex, I'm putting you in charge of keeping Scottie and Little Ted in line. I can't stay up late enough to referee their Yankee-Red Sox squabbles.

KAYLEE said...

someone needs to keep them in line!it was funny though reading it:-)
