Just when I thought I was in the clear

I'm never eating crab cakes again.

After dodging the raging stomach flu that obliterated everyone else in the house last week I was feeling pretty good about avoiding the "Great Sickness of '08".

Ang and I went out for dinner Saturday night, watched a movie and enjoyed the peace and quiet of a house with no children for the evening. Feeling fine and looking forward to the next 2 days off I went to bed Saturday night and slept like a baby.

Until about 6 am Sunday morning when I woke up feeling like somebody was stabbing my stomach with a rusty meat cleaver. Still, I got up, took a shower, and we were about 10 minutes from heading to church; at least we were until I felt the tremendous urge to get the bathroom ASAP.

I spent the next 8 hours or so either in the bed or the bathroom praying God would just let me throw up so I'd feel better. I was in the shower at about 6:15 last night when he finally granted my wish.

The moral here is be careful what you pray for; sometimes you get it.

Ted,
Sorry to hear that.
A bout with food poisoning is very nasty.
Funny thing is I just completed a course on SAFE FOOD HANDLING just last week!

Too bad the people at the restaurant you ate at did not take it...

Also ..you are not allergic to soft shell crab, are you? Some times soft shell crab can make its was into bulk crab meat.

I don't think I'm allergic, JMP. I've eaten Crab all my life; I just think I got a hold of a bad batch Saturday night.

At least I'm upright now. Somewhat.

Probably just undercooked.

Did it taste especially fishy to you or were they over seasoned?

I once had a disaster with some cajun shrimp like that.

I felt like I was in the exorcist.

Rich, It tasted really tangy; much more than I remembered before. I just chalked it up to the sauce they were using but I'm guessing I was wrong.

Lemon masks fishyness in seafood.

Call the board of health.

On another note, seafood is usually caught monday / tuesday sold on wednesday, delivered on thursday and you bought crab on a saturday.

Also remember crab cakes typicaly aren't made with the top end meat.

You aren't making me feel better, Rich. ;)

Wanna be really scared?

Wait till Rakes finds UFC.

He's already found the WWE. I just sort of figure UFC was next.

I'm very late commenting but I am catching up on blogs now that things have settled down from the holidays and I have to say, after having food poisoning myself right after Thanksgiving, I was praying *not* to throw up because I knew once I started, I wouldn't stop--that's just how it goes for me--and I had a red eye flight to catch that night. I got my wish. I was miserable but didn't throw up.
