I've Lost My Mind

It's official: the furniture business is in the tank right now. And as sign of the times, I let my little brother Matt cut my hair today.

Actually, I blame the fact Mike Lowell hasn't signed yet for my temporary insanity, but my wife is starting to question whether I'm certifiable or not. So I've gotta blame it on something.

About the time my Pop took this picture, I was second guessing myself: for all the grief I've given the boy for 32 years, it's a small miracle he didn't shave his initials in the back of my head.

In a surprising development, it turned out pretty good: I've sort of got a George Clooney thing going on with my gray hair and how Mattie cut it. Well, IF I was good looking, richer than the Pope, and had supermodels knocking down my door, I'd have a George Clooney thing going on.

You get what I mean.

It's a big improvement over the last hair cut I had: that one was done with my beard trimmer. Word to the wise: beard trimmers DO NOT make good hair cutting tools. I looked like Gilbert Grape for about 2 weeks: Matt's at least was for actual haircuts. For $20 bucks, I'm taking the plunge and buying one: it costs $12 dollars at my barber, and we pay $10 for Rakes and $5 for Trot, so once I use it on all 3 of us, it's paid for.

Besides, like I said, we're not exactly a bunch of Picasso's from the get go: how bad can I screw it up?

Finally, a message for Theo: if you mess this Lowell thing up, all bets are off. I know you have this formula you use, and you were right on Nomar and Petey. BUT, you blew it on Lowe and the O.C. So at best, YOUR way works 50% of the time. Besides, whatever it'd cost you for a 4th year, you'll make it up on T shirt sales and limited edition Mike Lowell shaving cream.

So for the love all that is good and holy:

DO IT.

You look like Caesar I hope a nights sleeping on it and a wash can pull it off.

You know Matt's been dying to do that to someone since I cut his hair with a sideburn trimmer.

Bub, hat hair. Remember, if I'm not working, I'm sporting a lid.

He actually did a pretty good job, believe it or not.

What'd you do today? Count all your money, or lay on the sofa and watch football all day?

that pic reminds me when I cut my lil sisters hair. I was 5 and she was 1. :)

I'm 37 and Mattie is 32: what exactly are you trying to say, Tex?

Ted, I don't think letting your brother cut your hair is a sign you've lost your mind... but thinking Theo made a mistake on Lowe certainly is. He has put up good but not spectacular numbers in the National League; I think he would have continued to get killed here in the AL. Having that pitcher's spot come up in the lineup really helps him not give up those strings of hits that always got him here.

And I ask you... do you really want to be around your fellow members of Red Sox Nation if Lowell struggles badly in that fourth year?

Hey, maybe next time I'm in town, you'll let me etch a SOX in the back of your head. Love the picture!

AUTO RESPONSE FROM DAWN WHO IS ROCKING TITO-STYLE IN A CORNER AS A RESULT OF NO NEW CONTRACT BEING SIGNED FOR MIKE LOWELL YET

I use the same philosphy when purchasing my Annual Pass for Disney: one trip into each park & the thing is paid for. And believe me, I go way more than that over the course of a year.

I want to be there when you TRY to give Rakes and Trot their first hair cuts. :)

You better check the back of your head in a mirror; Matt looks a little TOO happy in that picture. He may have put the 'Canes logo back there.

Tex, what do you mean it's not always about me?

Hi Kelly: How's Steve? I guess Lowe wasn't the best example, but he hasn't exactly stunk since leaving. I guess my point was it's a crapshoot on free agents: both your own and bringing new guys in. We KNOW what Mike Lowell brings to the table, it's just are we willing to be around, like you said, in that 4th year. My pick all along has been a 3 year deal with a 4th year kicking in if he reaches so many incentives in the first 3. Now, would you and your cursed logic quit questioning my idiotic, emotion-filled blog? ;)

Dawn, prozac. NOW. ;) Denise and Stacy, hopefully there will be no logos in the back of my head. Now Rakes and Trot? Different story!

I wasnt implying anything about you and Mattie's ages. I was just saying I remember me cutting my lil sis hair at a young age. Do you honestly think everything I post has some subliminal meaning?

Ted D said...

Tex, as much as you pick on me, I honestly thought you were comparing us to you and your sisters age then, at least mentally.

As a matter of fact, that's not far off. But basically, I was just pickin' with you. ;)

Kelly, I got to thinking about this and for some players, this is true. But look at how RSN treated Trot his last few seasons. He'd clearly fallen off, but was still beloved. Or Tek's offensive numbers. I know Lowell has only been here 2 years, but he seems to have been accepted with open arms. He may be one who, if his production dips offensively will still get a free pass.

Now, JD Drew on the other hand...

Don't try to fool anyone: I know how you senior citizens are: you've been taking a nap.

AHEM. just what are YOU saying?

Sonya@Beyond the Screen Door said...

Naps don't cross my lips out of principle. Last time I took a nap was when they put me out to scope my knee.

Ted D said...

Nothing, Tex. Nothing at all. ;)

Scott, I saw you doze off at least 10 times this summer: of course boredom will do that.

Ted,
Can your lil bro scoot down here and cut mine too??
Looks like he does a FINE job.

Ted D said...

jmp, he's actually coming to Disney in a couple of weeks. Just say the word and I'll have him stop by!

Hope you and your family are doing OK: again, really sorry for your loss.
