Almost a no-hitter. Twice.

*Picture from the Boston Globe*

Schill ALMOST pitched a no-hitter today. I ALMOST avoided getting in an accident today. Sadly, both things happened: Schill lost his no-no and I got the rear end of my car mangled.

Besides a Julio Lugo bobble no A's even reached 1B: no walks, no hits, nothing. He got the first 2 in the bottom of the ninth, then Shannon Stewart pokes one through. Question: why is it always guys like Shannon Stewart or Kelly Schoppach who always bust up no -hitters? You never see a Manny, or Bonds, or Pujols be the guy who ruins a date with history.

Still, Schill was the stopper we needed him to be today, and a 1 hitter counts the same as a no-hitter in the standings: after losing 6 out of 7, the Sox needed a win in a bad way. Papi hits a home run and Schilling does the rest: 1-0 win, and off to Arizona they go.

As for me, came to a stop at a light today that had just turned red, when 3 seconds later a lady in a F150 pick-up decided she wanted to play bumper cars with mine. One minor case of whip lash, a nerve jangling drive home which alternated with me cheering on Schilling on the radio and cringing every time my muffler, which now resides 6" off the ground, hit the road, and I was home.

It shook me up for sure, and I'm not exactly doing cartwheels over having to get it fixed: but I made it home in one piece to my wife and kids. The other folks were banged up but it seems like they will be OK. All that crumpled fiberglass can be fixed.

Gotta say: I hugged my babies a little bit tighter and a little bit longer tonight than usual.

IS THAT A NEW STATE?

Ted D said...

Tex, me too. What a sport, huh?

You are going to have a blast in SD: make sure you take a lot of pictures, you hear?

Is it Beckett vs The Unit tomorrow night?

Tex said...

Beckett vs Davis (who??)

well we both had stories today

KAYLEE said...

//Is it Beckett vs The Unit tomorrow night?//

NO,its beckett-doug davis and daisuke and the THE Unit on Sunday.

KAYLEE said...

oh cmon tex you have never heard of DOUG DAVIS?

Ted D said...

That'll work: hopefully we miss Brandon Webb altogether.

I actually think the matchup favors Daisuke: the Sox know Johnson and the D-Backs have never faced Matsuzaka.

KAYLEE said...

YOU DO MISS Brandon Webb. You will face doug davis, micah owings and JOHNSON

Evening everyone:

Holy buckets Ted! Thankfully you are alright!

Sorry, about not telling you in the 4th inning--had a bit of drama here as well...

My engagement ring is a sapphire, with a smaller diamonds on either side--and I was working around the house last night and I get into bed to watch the game and I look down and my heart stops--the sapphire was GONE..so Alan and I spent the better part of 30 minutes crawling around on the floor--luckily, I traced my movements and FOUND IT...so it's now at the jewler being repaired...

Whew!

And HOW bout that game! Whoo Hoo!

Go Sox!

KAYLEE said...

Christine:SOUNDS LIKE A BEautiful ring.....meanwhile i hate caps lock buttons:)

Christine, you crack me up! And since you were having all that going on, I'll forgive you for not letting me go to sleep earlier. ;)

GLAD you found it: I know you were freaking out. GREAT win today. They needed it in the worst way. The lack of run production for the series is a little worrisome, but a win is a win is a win.

Let's go beat up the NL for a couple of weeks. Whataya say?

Tex said...

Christine that sounds gorgeous! Saphires are my fav

KAYLEE said...

//Saphires are my fav//

Oh TEX:QUIT trying to impress her.You arent very good at it.

Tex said...

kaylee...My fav stones ARE sapphires....they are very pretty

Christine E. said...

It's a great ring-- I love sapphires as well...I am just glad I found the stone....I was heartbroken when I thought it was gone...

And I am with you Ted, beating up on the NL sounds like a plan!

KAYLEE said...

I know TEX...I just love messing with ya.....I like your guys plan of beating up on the NL too especially the diamondbacks and the giants....there is not a team i hate more than them except the yankees,of course.

Ted D said...

Kaylee, I hope you take this the right way: you have GOT to stop.

You are annoying people at a record pace and you need to realize this. It's OK to say stuff like that here, although if I were Tex it would piss me off, but at SG you are THIS close to getting someone to go off on you.

I'm telling you this so you don't get your feelings hurt in front of a lot more readers than show up here. Whether you take this seriously or not, I can know I tried.

KAYLEE said...

Ted,I understand and thats why i didnt post much over there during the game.

Ted D said...

OK Kaylee. First and last time I say anything: just wanted to speak my piece.

Back to bashing on the Yankees.

Tex said...

yah kaylee not all the posters on SG are as patient as I am with kids. being a juvenile probation officer...I take most what you say with a grain of salt :-p

but like Ted said...ease up on speaking your mind so bluntly....cos some of the sgers dont care that you're only 15

Ted D said...

What Tex said.

And what she said a whole lot better than me.

And why am I torturing myself watching the MFY's load the bases in the ninth?

WHY?

Christine E. said...

Cause your a Red Sox Fan

(I was doing the same thing...LOL

:-)

Ted D said...

And now I get to go to bed with the image of a grand slam by Slappy McBluelips in my head.

Christine, did you not see THIS coming and could have warned me? ;)

Tex said...

the yankees give me pain

i wish i didnt care....but i do..i want them crushed

Ted D said...

Tex, Blueberry Muffin and I were talking about that this week.

We need to step on their neck while we can: I want them eliminated by August. All tonight does is give them hope.

Freaking Slappy: I really hope he opts out and goes to the left coast next year, never to be heard from again.

Christine E. said...

Took the words RIGHT out of my mouth, Tex

Ted, I am only phychic on Tuesdays and Wednesdays--not Thursday..sorry!

They gain NO ground on teh Sox..casue we didn't need no stikin grand slam to win....

Go Sox!

Ted D said...

There you go Christine: making it all make sense with logic.

Was glad to find out from Kaylee we don't have to face Webb this weekend. Hopefully a sweep is in order.

I'm out: west coast games + wreck = one tired Ted. See you all tommorrow.

A life lesson can be learned from this game. Never shrug off a man who squats and does sign language between his legs for a living!!

Jr I heard about the Tbone. Tried to call your house but you must have missed this monthes bill. Phone not in service. And of course you never answer your cell in the evening. So I left an annoying message on your better halfs phone.

HorshamScouse said...

Glad you survived the rear-ending Ted. Odd that we have almost the same model Camry. I would be seriously miffed if some Kiwi in a big ute did that to mine.

Seems like an amazing game today, and I managed to see the winning run before going to work.

Bring on the NL. Weren't we something like 16-1 against the NL last year?

Ted D said...

Scotty, we changed the number to keep out the riff raff: take the message! No, Angie got your message: don't know what time you called but I never heard it ring.

John, thanks for the thoughts: pretty crazy we have almost the same car. REALLY wish I'd have thought to TiVo the game.

Stacy said...

Glad the Sox won and even more glad you're OK. :)

Tex said...

lets Go BECKETT!!

Ted D said...

John, I think we were 16-1 or 16-2, something like that: either way, we rolled.

Hopefully the same thing this year.

Tex, you going to get to see Beckett pitch?

VTek said...

Ted - Sorry to hear about that accident, but I'm glad you're okay and that the little ones weren't with you!

Ted D said...

Carol, Thanks: and me too on the kids not being with me.

Working at home/office today, arguing with insurance companies.

Whoo Hoo
