The Trials of Trot

It's been well documented here that ever since he was born, lil' Trot has had his share of health issues; constant ear infections that led to surgery for tubes at 9 months, stomach bugs, allergies, etc..

Newest plague? MRSA, which is a fun little thing to have. We found this out yesterday, even though he's been fine since last week.

Last Monday, Ang was bathing him when she screamed hysterically for me to get to the bathroom. The following ensued:

Ang: "He's got a flesh eating bacteria! Look behind his ear! Oh my Lord, what are we going to
do?"

Me: (blank stare, panic rolling in.)

Ang: "Ted, look at his ear! He's got one of those flesh eating viruses! We've got to do something!"

Me: "STOP SAYING THAT!"

You get the idea; it went on like that for a good 15 minutes while Trot screamed like some chimp with rabies and I kept expecting an alien baby to pop out of the mess behind his ear. We took him to the doctor on Tuesday, he calmly said it was Impetigo, gave us an antibiotic, and sent us on our way.

I guess the culture finally came back yesterday (nothing like modern medicine; it took 8 freaking days to get a sample back from 2 miles away) and it's a mild version of what I imagine the Black Plague looked like at the beginning.

Which brings me to the picture. See, the Doc thinks he got the staph infection from drinking 4 day old rain water that had ponded up on the play hut out back. Yes, he drank it and somehow I kept from developing hives.

So I hit the door today, Ang is on the phone, Rakes is watching tv, and Trot is nowhere to be seen. All of a sudden, here he comes strolling out of our room, soaking wet from head to toe (toilet) with a mouth full of something. I tell him to spit it out, and he hands me a fist full of pennies; dirty, germ soaked pennies put in his mouth by hands that had just been in the toilet.

Did I mention I'm a tad OCD when it comes to germs?

It's a miracle he doesn't have SARS, Asian Bird Flu, and Scarlett Fever by now.

Even more impressive? I didn't immediately pass out.

Thanks for the valium, Tex. Hope this finds you feeling better and it's not a hernia.

I guess boys will be boys huh Ted? Just imagine what Big Trot did to his parents when he was younger? Maybe you have a MLB player in the making?

At least he doesn't have the Tek flu, that would be terrible. I think I'm getting sympathy symptoms =[.

Hey Krystle,

Yeah, boys are a handfull. Guess you are winding down the year, huh? Do you graduate this year?

With this plague the Sox are having, I'm thinking of wearing a mask when I get to Boston.

Krystle [RSO] said...

Yes I do indeed. We don't have a graduation date yet, but we do =].

I'm scared to know what's going to happen on the plane tomorrow to Tampa...

Hopefully they put all the sick ones on a commercial plane and keep the healthy ones away, Krystle. ;)

Krystle [RSO] said...

yeah, I do too. no more sick people! Especially players that are you know, the only ones availale for their positions..I still would have LOVED to see Dustin catch last night.

Dude, many props for your fortitude in the face of the potty-pennies. You're developing quite the think skin. Now, what I really want to know is: how many times did you wash your hands after cleaning him up?

Tell the little man uncle Mattie is praying for him.

In a strange irony, my word verification for my last comment began with the following "Poo". That's just classic.

Ted D said...

Only 10 times, Newt.

Baby steps, baby steps.

Ted, seriously, as long as he aint eating dirt..wait..i mean as long as he aint drinking pond water...wait...as long as he aint putting everything in his mouth...wait...as long as he gets a bath every day, he'll be fine. :)

Ted D said...

Sadly Tex, the bath is all I can hang my hat on.

Is it too soon to come up with a little humor to lighten the parental concern?

More power to ya, Ted. Glad you held it together despite the OCD.

I just can't help but to wonder if his namesake started out the same way. Prehaps you can get the original Trot's mom on speed dial...

Krystle [RSO] said...

That's what I was thinking Dawn. I mean really - Trot is the original Dirt Dog. Maybe lil Trot is trying to be like him?

Don't ever take him to the bathroom department of a Home Depot Ted =]!

Ted D said...

Edge, it's never to soon for humor.

Stephen, having boys has helped me with my germ issues; as much as you tell them not to put something filthy in their mouth, they do it anyways!

Dawn, makes you wonder, right? Angie's Uncle runs in the same social circles as Trot's parents in Wilmington, NC. Maybe I can work that angle.

Krystle, I've got to ask; why Home Depot? Do you know something you aren't telling me?

Krystle [RSO] said...

They have a bathroom section that has toilets. He may go crazy =p. All I'm saying. ;p

Gotcha.
